Kevin was born on 3rd of October 1971 as the 3rd son of Ann and Jerald Richardson in Irvine/Kentucky. He spent his childhood on a 10 hectare farm. A lot of his time he spent with his horses and so he was able to ride, since he was 4 years old.

As a child he always wanted to be a pilot. His grandfather have a Cessna so Kevin was allowed to fly with him.

One day his mum bought him a piano. Kevin was fascinated of this instrument and so he found his new fervor. He couldn´t read any notes, but soon he replayed the charts.

When he was 9 years old his family moved to the countryside of Kentucky, where his father led a camp for teenagers. Kevin worked for the camp too and he became a mountain guide for teenagers.

In his schooltime he played in the school football team. Beside he sang in a church choir and two bands.

At the age of 19 his father passed away on August 26, 1991, because he suffered from cancer. For Kevin this was the worst time and he tried to abstract himselft by doing fitness and music. Kevin addicted the first Backstreet Boys album to his father. "If I can be half the man you where, as a Father, a Husband and as a Friend, then I will consider myself to be successfull. I miss you Dad. I delicated this album to my father, Jerald Wayne Richardson."

After highschool Kevin and his brother Jerald left Kentucky and moved to Orlando, where Kevin worked at Disney Land, as a model and dancing teacher. He ever dreamed of a career as a singer or artist and so he attended uncountable casting shows.

A meeting with Johnny Wright got him know to Nick, AJ and Howie. Sometime later Kevin introduced his cousin Brian and so the Backstreet Boys were born.
